Hine Antique XO was originally created in 1920 by Georges Hine (grandfather of Bernard Hine, today’s Honorary Chairman) and represents the flagship release from one of the region’s top producers.
‘Antique’ was unusual at the time of its creation as it was a blend of old Cognacs when young Cognac was the fashion. Georges’ personal nickname for the casks of mature vintage Cognacs, squirreled away in the ancient cellars beneath their Jarnac offices on the banks of the River Charente, was ‘antiques’ – hence the name that has stuck to this day.
To celebrate its centenary, Hine produced the Antique XO 100th Anniversary Grande Champagne Cognac. Only 1920 of these limited-edition cuvée decanters have been filled, making it exceedingly rare. A blend of around forty eaux-de-vie from the Grande Champagne area (Cognac’s finest growth), this liquid even includes a component from the 1920 harvest. Aged in barrels for a minimum of 10 years, Antique XO is a complex, rich and exquisitely balanced Cognac brimming cinnamon, nutmeg, pepper, lilac, lavender, iris, citrus, pastry, baked stone fruit, almond croissant and cedar. Raise a glass to the next hundred years of this fabulous creation!
